Russian–Prussian surrender of fugitives and deserters: cartel conventions of the 1840s and 1850s

The article analyses the extradition cartel conventions concluded between Tsarist Russia and Kingdom of Prussia during 1840s 1850s. first part is devoted to discussion actual conditions that affected procedures for release fugitives in Poland after failure November Uprising. second offers an in-depth analysis Russian-Prussian agreement 8/20 May 1844. Thirdly, study examines convention on exchange deserters was agreed upon 27 July / 8 August 1857 behalf Tsar Alexander II King Frederick William IV Prussia. conclusions draw attention repetitive character a number legal arrangements included conventions, but also emphasise some provisions were subject verification, depending practical considerations intentions.
